Ed, is that you? Why did you chose grrlwiththebowlerhat as your username?

I felt a bit sad when L died. Then, long time ago when I watched the first FMA anime, I got a bit pissed when Ed died. XD
I think it upset L because he knew what was going on. I also imagine he approached Watari, then, suspecting the coming days might result in the loss of his life, which, as the greatest detective, required some prep work. Or, at least, that’s what I thought. Maybe he was killing two birds with one stone, but I doubt the comfort part was openly discussed; maybe just a “being there” comfort — cos I like Watari being a papa figure, too.
Mm, I agree. And I think Watari knew that he knew.
As has been pointed out numerous times, I see, Heaven and Hell are nonexistent. According to the Death Note universe, that’s the end of the line; even “Mu” is nothing but a word for the no-longer-exists stage of existence. I’m inclined to believe you’ve only seen the anime, cos I see that misunderstanding a lot when that’s the case. I know the manga is very explicit. Another reason it trumps.
As for original!L vs movie!L, it’s always original!L. The movie was cotton candy, sugar goodness, but it wasn’t L. L wouldn’t have done that. He puts his life on the line; he doesn’t do things that deliberately rob him of his life. I made a rant earlier about this. There were a many things he could have done rather than play the role of big-screen martyr and hero. The movie!L is irritating. And the movie isn’t canon. I view it as fanfic for a larger audience.

Hrm. I guess this is the only “white-washing” I see that people are talking about. But then again, I myself didn’t really see it as being heroic. Forgive me, for it has been a while since I’ve seen the films.
EDIT: With that said, yes, I don’t see him self-sacrificing himself, if it can be helped.
